Autumn 2019

As usual there has been plenty of events at the nursing home with lots of activities going on during the summer months such as Dementia Awareness Week 2019 , Flower and Garden Week. However, as the evenings get shorter and the weather a little colder, we now look forward to the Autumn with more seasonal events and activities coming up.  Some of the ideas were discussed at our Residents Forum on 25th September and will hopefully be implemented during the next quarter.

Over the course of a year, we have a wide ranging variety of activities. Just click on the link below to look at what happened during last year.

There’s never a shortage of activity in our community at Sunbury Nursing Homes. The schedule on the left shows what we’re celebrating this month as well as other scheduled activities. We try to have a variety of events going on through the year as you will see from our Social Care & Activities page and our Year at Sunbury Nursing Homes publication.

Since the start of last year we have had various activities going on as detailed on the attached monthly plans.

Apart from these resident centred activities there are always improvements going on within the home.

over the last couple of years, we have:

  • replaced all the windows in the Main Building  and repainted the front section of the building;
  • completely upgraded the water and central heating system in the Main Building;
  • completely refurbished the ground floor of West Lodge so the Conservatory and Bistro areas look like new;
  • installed a Silent Roof to the Conservatory minimising noise disturbance and glare;
  • completely refurbished The Morning Room in Weir House for use as as meeting and training room;
  • completely refurbished the Reception area in the Cottage;
  • completely refurbished the Montford Lounge in the Johanna Wing;
  • converted four bathrooms into lovely new dementia friendly wet rooms;
  • converted two small toilets in each of the Norman, Johanna and Marion Wings into large assisted, wheelchair friendly toilets;
  • refurbished Norman Wing Rooms 8,11 and 12, Carmel Wing Room 2 as well as Johanna Wing Rooms 2 and 4;
  • landscaped the garden at the rear of the Marion Wing with the assistance,  and to the design, of Mrs Hemus’s daughter,  Lizzie Bowen;
  • installed a new automatic door to the lift end of the Main Building to make it easier to access the gardens;
  • replaced all the laundry equipment with brand new machines and cleaning system;
  • fitted a new phone system

  • had a music video recorded in the Conservatory!

There are also more plans in the pipeline. It’s fair to say, there’s never a dull moment!
